Carmen Barrett Obituary

Reverend Carmen M. Davis- Barrett was born January 8, 1954 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late Elliott Davis and Geraldine Davis-Woboki and raised by her grandparents Robert Ruth and Faye Estes-Ruth.  Carmen was crowned by the Lord on June 26, 2020.

Product of Pioneer Homes, she was educated in the Elizabeth New Jersey School system.  She was employed with Community Coordinated Child Care of Union, County New Jersey.  Carmen furthered her education and earned her Bachelor of Christian Education in May 2010 from the Andersonville Theological Seminary.  Prior to her untimely death she was pursuing her Master’s degree in Christian Education.

Carmen met, fell in love, and married Deacon Donald Gardner Barrett on July 3, 1976.  They happily raised five children, who she affectionately called and were known as " DEM Barrett’s. "

Carmen always knew there was a calling on her life.  She attended Liberty Baptist Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey at a young age.  In her adult life she joined the Shiloh Baptist Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey; there she was consecrated to the Diaconate Ministry.  She was a vital directress of the Music ministry of Shiloh Baptist Church, United Voices of NJ, her voice was utilized with Morning Star Community Choir, and attended both Gospel Music Workshop of America and Thomas Dorsey National Convention of Choirs and Choruses.

In 2006, after years of living in her beloved State of New Jersey she relocated with her husband to Georgia.  It was there she founded Fit to be Loved Christian Institute for Youth and Families, LLC.  This opened the doors for her true passion of human services as God as the head.  Carmen was the program coordinator/supervisor for the Second Chance Pre-Trial Intervention Program with the Fulton County Superior Court located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Her spiritual journey in Georgia led her to Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Dr. Jeffery R. Wimbush, Sr.  This became home until God led her to Grace Cathedral Christian Fellowship, Incorporated.  While there she was ordained as Elder in November 2010.  From there she united with Life Church of Atlanta under the leadership of Pastor Terence A. Merritt, M. D. where she was nurtured further in ministry until God called her back to Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church to serve with her husband and to be used as a servant for kingdom building.  This spiritual daughter was ordained as Reverend on May 7, 2017, where she served as an Associate Minister and birthed the Prayer Warriors Ministry.

Her life is a true testament of her favorite scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path.

Assignment complete, this servant of God with the contagious smile, gentle spirit, loving heart, wise counselor and mother to all, was released from pain and suffering; has left behind her loving husband Donald Barrett who would have today celebrated their 44th Wedding Anniversary.  Carmen also leaves to mourn her five children Reverend Joy M. Barrett-Howard (Harry), Minister Celeste T. Barrett-Tolliver (Denton), Ms. Malaika A. Barrett, Mr. Jason L. Barrett (La Shawne’) and Mrs. Danielle M. Barrett-McFadden (David), grand-children Chante (Yasmin),Shatia, RahQuan, NahQuan (Jaquay), Cheryl Joy, Wayne, Shakinah, Shi'Erra, Ariel, Genesis, Asheem, Akeema, Shahmae adorable great-grandchildren, her sisters Paula A. "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day- and not only to me , but also to all who have longed for his appearing."

                                                                                       - 2 Timothy 4:7-8
