Jesse Louis Windsor was born to Thomas and Ella Windsor, in Jacksonville, Florida on November 26, 1923. As a child he moved to Slocomb, Alabama` where he spent most of his childhood, attending Geneva County Training School. Jesse enlisted in the United States Army in October 1940 at the young age of 16, completing Basic Training in Ft. Benning, Georgia and joined the 24th Infantry Regiment Buffalo Soldiers. He saw combat duty across the South Pacific, including the Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Guadalcanal and Saipan, in the Asia-Pacific Theater of World War II, serving as Platoon Sergeant and ultimately achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Jesse was highly decorated earning the Combat Infantryman Badge, the American Defense Service Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal.
After leaving the Army, Jesse moved to Stamford, Connecticut where he met and married his wife, Eveline Pina, raising two children in nearby Stratford, Connecticut. Jesse worked for Machlett Labs for over 40 years and was an active community leader and devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Stratford. He was a lifetime member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge, Bridgeport, CT Doric Lodge #4. After retirement, Jesse and Eveline moved to Acworth, Georgia, becoming loyal and loving members of Grace Community Christian Church in Kennesaw, Georgia. Jesse was married to his loving wife Eveline for 55 years, who preceded him in death in 2011.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Avery of Atlanta, Georgia, his son Thomas Windsor (Ramona Rogers-Windsor) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his brother Harold Windsor (Agnes), three beautiful granddaughters whom he absolutely adored: Taylor Martez Avery of Smyrna, Georgia, Annalise Pina Windsor (Taggart Galvin-Darnieder) of Aurora, Colorado, and Dr. Alanna Marie Windsor (Dr. Bharat Burman), of New York City, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Anna Merle Faison and brother Wallace Windsor.
The funeral home will welcome guests for a Public visitation on Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Greener Pastures Funeral Home, 4405 Marietta St. Powder Springs, GA 30127
The funeral services will take place the following day on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Greener Pastures Funeral Home, 4405 Marietta St. Powder Springs, GA 30127. Due to Covid-19, we ask only the immediate family is present. Please view the livestream if you are not part of the immediate family
A public Memorial Service date will be posted at a later time.
